Young people are creators of change and can offer possible solutions to social and cultural problems. One of them today is improving the access to culture of people with visual impairments, whose access to public spaces is further hampered by infrastructural barriers. The project “Youth Workshop” Feel the City aims to introduce young people to part of the urban cultural heritage of Plovdiv and to help them recreate part of it in an interactive exhibition that is suitable for people with visual impairments.
The project is implemented with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv – “Plovdiv for Youth” program and in partnership with the National Center for Rehabilitation of Blind People – Plovdiv.

What’s next:
6-day interactive youth workshop “Feel the city” with an interactive sensory exhibition, curated and presented by all participants after the workshop.
Where: in the Home of AKEA Mediator at 1 Gladstone Street, office 30, Plovdiv
When: from June 5 to June 9 – workshop; June 15 – opening of an interactive exhibition
Who is it suitable for: young people between 16 and 35 years old, who are ready to challenge their senses and share their creative ideas about the cultural heritage of Plovdiv.
What will happen:
4 interpretive laboratories
Tactile (touch of flooring, facades, natural sites, etc.)
Audio-visual (ways of “seeing” – photos, videos, drawings, graffiti, etc.)
Olfactory (recognition, collection and presentation of odors)
Verbal (methods for collecting and telling stories)
Interactive sensory exhibition
Participants will be trained in methods for interpreting and guiding visually impaired people and the guests of the exhibition will be guided by them to feel it. For this purpose, visitors who are sighted will wear masks to put themselves in the position of the blind.
What each participant will learn:
• What is an urban cultural heritage and how to interpret and present it
• Basic skills for guiding people with visual impairments
• How to create while having fun
• How to create and curate an interactive exhibition
